Name MACAULAY, Donald Cam (one-eyed Donald Birth Bef 1597 Gender Male Note - Donald Cam (Blind Donald) was Tacksman of Brenish, Lewis, he gave eleven at least of his decendants to the srvice of the church:- 2 Great Grandsons, 4 Great-great grandsons, 4 Great-great great grandsons and 1 g-g-g-g grandson. First in the family to stand out prominently in the traditions of Lewis. He lived in Uig, and according to MacAulay tradition, was the son of Dugald, the son of John Roy, the son of Dugald. A Man of great phisical strength and daring, One eyed Donald took a prominent part in resisting the settlement of the Fife colonists in Lewis, and afterwards assisted the MacLeods in their attempts to keep the MacKenzies from settling in the Island.
The first MacAulay of Lewis on record is Donald (Cam), mentioned in 1610, who is said to have been captured along with Torquil Dubh in 1597, but escaped.
