Name MACKENZIE, William Alexander Birth Wood island PEI Gender Male Note - FromDavid MacKenzie Nelson
Will met Ella when she accompanied her father to P.E.I., where he was involved in constructing a railroad. Will recieved an M.D. degree from McGill University in Montreal and was the only doctor in the Long's Creek - Prince William area of New Brunswick (up the St. John River, north of Fredricton). He practiced medicine there for the remainder of his life after recieving his degree from McGill; because there was no other doctor to substitute for him, he was never able to return to P.E.I. The house in which he and Ella lived is, literally, around th e corner from King's Lnding Historical Settlement and in 1985, was still occupied by Luke Kelly. Will and Ella raised fowes as a hobby. During the 1940's and 50's, I visited them several times with my parents; their Cape-Cod-Style house was set beside the old road and faced the beautiful farms and fields located across the St. John river on the north bank. At some point during the 1970s or 80s the house was moved back slightly from the road and placed on a new foundation, so the site no longer appears exactly as I remember it from my childhood.
