163 | David Vaughan, R-2, second son of John and Lillian Vaughan left a Will executed and probated in 1678. He named his father John Vaughan and brother John Vaughan, Jr. as co-executors. Will shows a widow Mary who remarried to Thomas Joslin, also an only son John Vaughan (a child). DAVID, son of John and Gillian (?) Vaughan, born July 19, 1646 at Newport, R.l. He married Mary (?), who, some time prior to 1682, married Thomas Joslin for her second husband. David was admitted a freeman at Portsmouth on June 27, 1670 On October 10, 1674, he was chosen to serve on jury trials. The deed, to David from the Town Fathers at Portsmouth 1676, indicates he purchased 35 acres there on this date. He drew his will March 1, 1677-78 and this was proved May 25, 1678. He named his father and brother John co-executors of his will. He named his son and his wife as beneficiaries. John his son became founder of Vaughan family at North Kingstown, R.I. David Vaughan bought the 35 acres from John Anthony on Nov. 7, 1666. He did not marry Mary Mott, daughter of Adam Jr. and Mary (Lott) Mott. 188 | Donald Cam (Blind Donald) was Tacksman of Brenish, Lewis, he gave eleven at least of his decendants to the srvice of the church:- 2 Great Grandsons, 4 Great-great grandsons, 4 Great-great great grandsons and 1 g-g-g-g grandson. First in the family to stand out prominently in the traditions of Lewis. He lived in Uig, and according to MacAulay tradition, was the son of Dugald, the son of John Roy, the son of Dugald. A Man of great phisical strength and daring, One eyed Donald took a prominent part in resisting the settlement of the Fife colonists in Lewis, and afterwards assisted the MacLeods in their attempts to keep the MacKenzies from settling in the Island. 195 | Educated at the University of Edinbugh, where he graduated M.A. in 1692 Mr. Donald was settled as minister of Kilmuir in Skye in 1700, by Sir Donald MacDonald, 4th Baronet of Sleat. He was noted for his great strength and skill in arms. Morrison, the author of the Morrison Manuscripts, records that, in a wrestling and fencing contest at Duntuilm, Sir Donald 'soon found that he was no match for Mr Donald, and from that time became his determined enemy.' Persecuted by the Baronet of Sleat, Mr. MacAulays lot in Kilmour was not an enviable one, but fortunately for him he was befriended by the Chief of Dunvegan, Norman MacCleod, who presented him to Bracadale, where he was admitted in 1708, and remained as minister until his death in 1748.
