Edward O. Smith was Born November 1830 in Indiana his Mother and Father were both born in New York.

Sarah E. Shelley born December 1840, in Iowa. Her mother and father were both born in Kentucky.

In 1900 Sarah and Edward were both living on a 160 acre farm in Mahaska County Iowa about two miles from their daughter Nettie and son in law Thomas Sheue on the outskirts of Peoria. Their son William Alva Smith age 26 was living with them and was a "farm laborer".

Edward Smith was a Civil War Veteran and was injured in the battle of Shilo.

Sarah (Shelley) Smith who is by family tradition or myth said to be related to Percy Shelley the Poet, lived to be in her 90's. She lived in Ramona Nebraska with her Daughter Ada (Smith) Sweet in her latter years.
