Notes about the Memorial Hall known as the American Legion Building.

References to the building in the Vancouver Columbian Newspaper: [V.C. 1-21-20] Jan. 21st 1920---The American Legion bought the entire Vancouver block bounded by Broadway; 14th; "C"; and 13th streets for a clubhouse. The ground and building to cost about $60.000. [Dougs note: This block is now the Burger ABM building and parking lot.]; [V.C. 6-5-23] June 4. 1923---An ordinance was passed by the Vancouver city council authorizing the purchase by the city of the American Legion building. -- The city bid in the building at public auction for $35.000 on June 16; 1923 and renamed it Memorial Hall. [V.C. 12-19-23]---Mayor Allen and Officials preparing to occupy new quarters at the Memorial Hall.

E. Crandall, city clerk said today that the terra cotta supports are being supplied by the Columbia Terra Cotta works, a local firm. The cost of $400, is being paid by the city. The porticos are round and fluted and have glazed exteriors."
